Eagle in Flight Intarsia

Eagle in flight

This handcrafted eagle in flight is different than others you find. The shaping is unique and angled adding a lifelike dimension to the piece.

At Captivating Crafts we pride ourselves in using the original woods to make our intarsia pieces. This one has Brazilian yellow satin or canary wood (beak and claws), maple (head and tail) and walnut for the wings.

This Eagle couldn't look more life like.  It has a shiny finish - but can be special ordered in a matt finish also.  It is most unique with it's shine.  Detail almost looks real - if it wasn't wood.

Intarsia. (in-tahr-see-uh) The art of painting in wood. Intarsia is created by selecting different types of wood, both exotic (from around the world) and domestic, using their natural grain patterns and colors rather than dyes or stains to create the different colors and patterns. Each piece is individually cut, shaped, and sanded before fitting them together like a jig-saw puzzle. They are then glued to a piece of 1/4" plywood backing cut in the shape of the final product. Sometimes thicker pieces of wood are used to create a 3D effect. Each intarsia piece is unique and can take hours to create.

You can order on line or visit our shop at: 1890 7th Avenue, Marion, IA or contact us via e-mail: captivatingcrafts@gmail.com

Each piece is cut, shaped, sanded and glued to a backer board. all the color is in the wood. No paint or stain is used.
